INSTRUCTIONS ON CONFIGURING TELIX 3.22 (for DOS) FOR CCN: These are the instructions on how to configure Telix located in the CCN Public Download Area for use on CCN: 1. Download the 4 zip files named: TLX322-1.ZIP, TLX322-2.ZIP, TLX322-3.ZIP and TLX322-4.ZIP and place them in a directory called: Telix - on your C:\ drive (if you have a hard drive) or A:\ or B:\ drive (if you do not have a hard drive). Unzip the files via PkUnzip or another unzipping program of your choice. If your present terminal program doesn't download properly or if you do not have one at the present time, call the Office at 494-2449 and it can be arranged to be supplied to you for the cost of a blank disk. 2. Run Telix.exe and answer the four questions you are asked: monitor (b/w, color or monochrome), modem baud rate (300-115,200 bps), com port (usually port 2 - external modem, port 4 - internal modem) and if you want a status line (for your on-going information at-a-glance) at the bottom of the screen. Press [ENTER] to advance to each option. 3. Type O while holding down the ALT key. This will bring up your configuration options screen. 4. Select Terminal options by pressing [ENTER]. Select C and set it to VT102 [ENTER] Select J and set it to Off [ENTER] Select K and set it to On [ENTER] Press [ENTER] to advance to the next screen. 5. Select Modem option by pressing [ENTER]. Select K and set it to 60 [ENTER] Select M and set it to Yes (for On) [ENTER] Press [ENTER] to advance to the next screen. 6. Select Filenames and Paths options by pressing [ENTER]. If you are using a hard drive; Select A and enter: C:\ [ENTER] Select B and enter: C:\ [ENTER] (This sends all of your downloads to your C drive.) (This takes all of your uploads from your C drive.) Press [ENTER] to advance to the next screen. If you are not using a hard drive; Select A and enter: A:\ or B:\ [ENTER] Select B and enter: A:\ or B:\ [ENTER] (This sends all of your downloads to, either, your A or B drives.) (This takes all of your uploads from, either, your A or B drives.) Press [ENTER] to advance to the next screen. 7. Select Protocols options by pressing [ENTER}. Select I and set it to Yes (for On) Select J and set it to Yes (for On) Press [ENTER] to advance to the next screen. 8. Save your configuration options by selecting Write To Disk and pressing [ENTER]. 9. Press D while holding down the ALT key to select the Dialing Directory. Move the option selector using the right and left arrow keys and select Edit and press [ENTER]. Type in the name: Chebucto Community Net [ENTER] Type in the number: 1170, - to disable Call Waiting temporarily 9, - if calling through a switchboard 1,902, -if calling long distance 4948006 - the CCN modem dial-in phone number NOTE: You must use commas after the first several numbers. The commas act as spacers to pause the dialing to allow for another dialtone. Without them, your phone line may become confused if the numbers are entered too quickly. If your dialtone is particularly slow, you need to replace the commas with capital W's (for Wait for a dialtone). Select: VT-102 for terminal emulation. [ENTER] If you make an error, press [ENTER] continuously until you reach the bottom of the options list and start over. Save your Dialing Directory entry at the bottom of the list by selecting Yes to the question 'Do you wish to save this entry?' Use the arrow keys to move your option selector over to Dial. You are now fully configured and ready to dial into CCN. Press [ENTER] to dial in to CCN. Telix will automatically re-dial if you encounter a busy signal. 10. Log-in as usual; using 'guest' (without the quotes) and pressing [ENTER] if you don't already have an account. Welcome to the Chebucto Community Net!
