There can be several causes for newsgroup error messages: 1. Usually an error message means that the References: line contains pointers to documents which have since become deleted, cancelled, expired or that our server can't find. Simply delete the References: line and the message should disappear. 2. If you get an error message when you try to save your follow-up or a new posting created by you, then it can mean you have an error in the name of a newsgroup. As well, you may be trying to follow up a post from a server that carries some newsgroups not carried by our server. 3. Quota messages flash when you get close to or exceed your account quota. The .newsrc file (which keeps track of what you are subscribed to) needs a certain amount of memory to write the new file. If it can't find the memory, it simply doesn't write the new file; however, the old file is deleted upon entering news. If your .newsrc file fails to write upon leaving news, you will lose all of your subscribed-to groups.
