The Internet runs by packets (small bits of information in no particular order). If a file were to go directly to your computer, you would end up with a jumble of mixed-up data on your hard drive. CCN is like a big jigsaw puzzle solver. It takes all of the scrambled packets which arrive in totally mixed-up order and reassembles them into the properly ordered file and holds it in a temporary storage area (cache) for you to download to your system. It's like when you order some things through the mail and boxes 2 and 5 of 6 arrive the first day and boxes 3, 4 and 6 arrive the next day and finally box 1 arrives the last day although all of them were sent at the same time. If CCN didn't do this, ZModem Resume would be an impossibility as your system would never be able to sort all of the packets in order. If you download a 10 meg file, CCN uses a 10 meg cache to reassemble and store the file for you. To do this directly, you computer would need a 10 meg cache to satore all of the its of data as they come in. This is why you need to bring the file to CCN first each time before you download. If you find that you don't have enough time, try later at a time when traffic on the Internet is slacker and transfers should move more quickly.
